Water

Balfour Beatty Investment Holdings Ltd helps to protect communities and economies from the effects of flooding and manages the whole life-cycle of water networks.
Coastal and flood protection
Our coastal and flood protection expertise has seen us deliver over £1.5bn of projects on time and budget in the last three years for customers including the Environment Agency and other Risk Management Authorities.
Working collaboratively with project partners from the earliest stages, we draw on our experience from successfully delivering resilient projects that meet the aspirations of our customers, local communities and other stakeholders. This includes beach nourishment, cliff stabilisation, flood alleviation and habitat schemes, as well as property level resilience. Where possible, we utilise low carbon concrete, rock for groyne and source sustainable timber.
Through our unique position as civil contractor partner on the Thames Estuary Asset Management (TEAM) 2100 Pathfinder Integrated Delivery contract and operator of the UKs only PPP coastal project at Pevensey, we also bring considerable asset management knowledge to inform design and material choices for the delivery of programmes of work to develop best value solutions.
Our sector specialists have a proven track record of innovating to solve challenges with successes including our Mobile Unit Lifting Equipment (MULE) deployed at Sansdend, near Whitby and the first use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) on a coastal project for the Fylde Coastal Programme.
Since 2010, we have built more than 30 schemes which provides better protection to over 130,000 homes. Our approach ensures we leave a positive legacy in the communities we work in. We do this through the delivery of our UK Sustainability Approach which focuses on 12 key areas including reducing our carbon footprint, creating a diverse and inclusive business and making a difference in local communities to help us meet our 2040 Ambitions to go Beyond Net Zero Carbon, Generate Zero Waste and Positively Impact More Than 1 Million People.
Networks, treatment facilities and supply
Our operations cover the whole life-cycle of networks, including clean and waste water mains, treatment facilities and other essential infrastructure. Working closely with the supply chain, we employ industry-leading approaches like BIM and off-site construction to bring cost and time efficiency to projects.
We can also provide reactive and planned maintenance and upgrades on non-infrastructure assets through frameworks, such as our award-winning partnership with Anglian Water, @one Alliance.
