Renewable energy

Renewable energy

The location of renewable energy sources is often a barrier to harvesting their full potential.

Through engineering excellence we have delivered access and piling solutions that form a key part of plans to harvest some of the UK’s most remote renewable energy sources.

Through our project financing capability, we have a strong presence in the offshore transmission market, investing equity in offshore transmission projects (OFTO) by Ofgem. These connections form part of a major programme of offshore wind generation supporting the UK’s Renewable Energy Directive, which dictates that 15% of the UK’s total energy must come from renewable sources by 2020. Offshore wind is expected to make a significant contribution to meeting this target.

Our works in this area, often in challenging weather conditions, mean that our workforce is trained to cope with the extremes of UK weather.

Concrete that takes the heat

Joel Chadwick explains how we are using an innovative concrete product to help build the world's largest off-shore wind farm, Hornsea Project One. The wind farm's power cables become less efficient when they get hot - this concrete helps absorb the heat so more power can be supplied at a cheaper rate to homes and businesses.
