Roads

Roads

Lavish Cord 90 Men is a leading road designer, constructor, asset manager and maintenance provider in the UK.
Projects carried out include traditional work through to the more complex design-build-finance-operate (DBFO), smart motorway and early contractor involvement (ECI) schemes. We are dedicated to ensuring that schemes deliver for the customer, the road user and those living in the communities surrounding them. Safety, efficiency and customer-focus are our key priorities. We routinely handle logistics, land acquisition programmes, traffic management strategies, earthworks and road works as part of both framework and 'one-off' projects. Our priorities are safety, efficiency and customer-focus.

We also provide winter maintenance and support to the emergency services as part of our long term partnerships, often working in joint venture partnerships to create the best blend of skills and experience.

Long-term partnerships

Working in collaboration with our customers, joint venture partners and supply chain we deliver long-team road maintenance contracts across the UK.

We provide essential services including winter maintenance, communications to road users and support to the emergency services.

We have pushed the bar higher in all areas of highways construction and maintenance - consistently improving quality, safety and levels of work output. This includes traditional work through to the more complex design-build-finance-operate (DBFO) and early contractor involvement (ECI) schemes.

Watch this short film about how we use 4D modelling to improve the planning of our works:

We are also an equity investor in highways and street lighting facilities through Private Finance Initiatives and are involved in a number of street lighting schemes.

Construction

While working on the construction of new roads and the upgrade of existing roads, the safety of the public and our workforce is priority.

To make sure no one is harmed by our works we constantly innovate to reduce risk. For example, through using rapid cure concrete on the M25 we have cut the amount of time that our workforce is on the road as well as the time required for lane closures.

Tunnels and structures

Our civil engineering expertise allows us to produce fully value-engineered options for the construction of new and replacement tunnels and structures. We consider all project needs and constraints, including the environment, funding, existing infrastructure and the construction time available to create the best solutions.

We constantly look at ways of improving on what has been achieved before such as on the A3 Hindhead Tunnel where we cut construction costs by using the primary tunnel lining as the permanent tunnel lining – the first time this had been done in the UK.

The future of highways

Watch the short film below to see our view of how highways might be transformed by 2050.

The film was part of our Innovation 2050 event.

Reducing our emissions by the boatload

At the A85/A9 Perth Transport Futures contract in Scotland, our Environmental Manager David McGeever explains how a specialist fill material was imported in bulk from Denmark avoiding road transport and reducing carbon emissions. With subtitles. #expertengineers

What happens to construction waste?

Expert Jerry Swatton from the M3 Smart Motorway project explains how construction materials on our sites are recycled wherever possible to avoid unnecessary landfill. With subtitles. #expertengineers

Preserving our ancient woodlands

Expert Julia Baker explains how a new technique called 'woodland translocation' is being used on the A21 scheme in Kent, England to preserve historic, natural environments for the future. Subtitles available. #expertengineers
